prophecy

Destruction of Tyre

Detailed prediction of Tyre's destruction.

Scripture Reference: Ezekiel 26 (c. 587 BC)
"They will destroy the walls of Tyre and pull down her towers. I will scrape away her rubble and make her a bare rock... I will bring against Tyre Nebuchadnezzar... They will throw your stones, timber and rubble into the sea."

The Evidence

Ezekiel predicted: 1. Nebuchadnezzar would attack. 2. The city would be scraped flat like a rock. 3. The stones/timber would be thrown into the sea.

Historical Context

Nebuchadnezzar destroyed the mainland city. Later, Alexander the Great wanted to attack the island city, so he took the rubble from the mainland ruins and built a causeway (land bridge) into the sea to reach it. He literally scraped the old city clean and threw it into the ocean.

Significance

Precise fulfillment of a multi-stage prophecy.
